My grandmother just told me an amazing story.....

I called her today (June 5th) to tell her happy birthday and she was so excited and thrilled about a package she got in the mail today. (PS, she lives in Texas.)

A little backstory: My grandpa (and my grandma’s recent boyfriend [before sadly passing away]) were both in WWII. They both received purple hearts for their bravery. My grandma had always been a supporter of the brave men and women fighting overseas for our country.

My Aunt in New York, along with a few of her friends, started putting together care packages for the troops in Afghanistan. She’s part of a program called Boots On The Ground and it’s an absolutely wonderful, supportive, program. 

My grandma would write letters for the soldiers and my aunt would put the letters in with the packages. They loved my grandmother’s letters so much, they flew a flag over Afghanistan in her honor! They even sent her a framed certificate, along with the flag itself!! My grandma was in tears over this, she couldn’t have been more proud. What she told me even put me in tears. She said this:

"I’m going to put that flag on the pole in my front yard. If it’s good enough to fly over Afghanistan, then it’s good enough to fly over Texas."
